Nail Salons

Luxury Cabin Rentals
Things To Do

Located in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg have no shortage of nail salons.  They are full service salons offering everything you will need from manicures, pedicures, waxing and nail fill ins.  You can find every color of the rainbow and even have your nails air brushed.  There are many designs to choose from and you can even add stars, moons or various other symbols to the nail.

We do recommend that you investigate before you partake to be sure that the health and sanitation guidelines are being met.  If a salon is using dirty instruments or has poor sanitation procedures you can be put at risk for diseases like hepatitis B and C and athlete's fool.  There are several things as a consumer that you can look for and we are listing them for you here:

  • Make sure your salon has an up-to-date operating license.
  • If there is any question about sensitivity to the materials used in artificial nails, have one nail tested before having a full set put on to see if there is a reaction.
  • Never apply an artificial nail if there is an infection or irritation around or on the nail.  Let the infection or irritation heal first.
  • If an artificial nails breaks or the bond between the nail bed and the artificial nail is broken, soak the nail in alcohol before reapplying the artificial nail to remove any bacteria.
  • Don't shave your legs the night before or the day of a salon footbath.  Scrapes and nicks can make you more susceptible to infection.
  • Check that nail instruments are properly sanitized.  Heat sterilization is best.  Even better:  Bring your own nail tools.
  • Wash your hands before a manicure and ask your manicurist to do the same.
  • Insist on fresh soapy water for hand or foot soaking.
  • Ask the manicurist to push back cuticles instead of cutting
  • If there is any question about sensitivity to the materials in artificial nails, have one nail done as a test and wait a few days to see if a reaction develops.
People often think that the reason God gave them nails is for them to look good.  But the main function of nails is physiological rather than cosmetic. Nails enhance fine motor skills, they protect the fingers and toes and they enhance fine touch.  A Doctor can examine them to see if there are serious underlying diseases such as clubbed nails which is a classic sign of chronic lung and heart disorder.  Once again, it is vitally important to keep your nails healthy.

More common nail problems, dermatologists report, are infections from bacteria, such as Staphylococcus; fungi, such as Candida (also known as yeast); and skin viruses, such as warts.  If you suspect you may be suffering from any of these conditions or you have a nail bed that has turned dark, consult your doctor for an expert opinion and cure.

Whatever you decide is right for you, enjoy your vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains and be sure to include a Pigeon Forge Cabin Rental or a Gatlinburg Cabin Rental in your plans.
