  1. Make sure you are working with a travel agent that provides you with accurate and factual information about the services they provide.
  2. You should request to receive a disclosure from the travel agent in writing details about the cost, restrictions and other conditions of the services they will be providing for you.  This should include cancellation and service fees.
  3. Make sure you are working with a travel agent who is responsive.  If they are not calling you back and following up with you in a timely manner move onto another agency.
  4. Ask in advance what will happen to undisputed funds that they have in their control.  Make sure the funds will be released to you in a timely manner.
  5. Find out what your rights are if you have a dispute.  Make sure you know what the procedure is for filing a dispute and whether the agency in known to cooperate with matters of conflict.
  6. Find out what the confidentiality policy of the agency is.  Make sure your information will not be sold or used for any other purpose.
  7. Make sure you know that the agency you are using is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  8. Find out what personal experience your agent has had with the area you are most interested in visiting.  Nothing is more helpful than someone who has actually visited the area and knows the ins and outs.
