General Packing List
This summer is expected to be a record breaker for auto travel and the Great Smoky Mountains as a travel destination is no exception. As the season mounts, many travelers feel frustrated by bumper-to-bumper traffic. Taking an aggressive approach to driving is not the answer. Not only is it dangerous but it can hit you hard in the wallet as well. Speeding, accelerating quickly and braking suddenly wastes gas and causes excessive wear and tear on your vehicle.
We would like to offer some general planning reminders/tips:
- Have a vacation budget in mind. Then have each family member outline their ideal vacation. Try to include at least one element from each member's list of their favorite activities. In the Pigeon Forge area this could include horseback riding, shopping, go cart riding, bungee jumping . . . Let your imagination go wild!
- Be sure to make memories! Find out from your travel companions what kind of memories would mean the most to them in five years and then set out to create them. Hiking in the Smoky Mountains is sure to provide many opportunities for memories.
- Select an area that provides something for everyone. Not a difficult task when visiting the Great Smoky Mountains. From Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg you will find almost every kind of activity.
- Less is more!! Once you have your list of "to do" cut it in half. Don't ruin the memory by trying to do too much. Visiting an area like Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg makes it tempting to do too much, so gauge your activities.
- Go your separate ways!! Nothing keeps the peace better than a little separation time. Not everyone has the same energy level or the same desires. Be sure to allow room for flexibility between the go-getter's and the laid back's
- Everyone to their own space! Be sure grandparents or other family members have their own living space to allow for quiet time and needed privacy. You can find this space in the luxurious cabin rentals that are available in the local area.
- Visit your doctor or dentist before your vacation. There is nothing worse than being on vacation and having something go wrong with your health. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!!
- Ask friends and family members who are not traveling with you to include you in their prayers while you are gone. Nothing helps more than prayer for safe travel and happy times.
