As a journalist, I’ve always craved diversity and been fascinated with fun facts. I have also always enjoyed Smoky
Mountain vacations. But as far as diversity and fun facts go, Dollywood wins hands down!
Let me throw some fun facts at you:
-
Except for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Dollywood is the most visited
attraction in the state of Tennessee.
- Dollywood annually hosts nearly 2.5 million visitors.
-
In one season, Dollywood uses 3 million pounds of ice, 46 tons of French fries, more than 100,000 feet of aluminum foil and
750,000 pairs of disposable gloves.
- With 2,000 employees during peak operating season, Dollywood is the largest employer in Sevier County, TN.
I could list many more fun facts, but I can’t assume that you are as fascinated by these tidbits as I am. But, everyone will be
interested in the diversity of Dollywood’s attractions.
Here are some of my favorites:
-
The Tennessee Tornado—a looping steel roller coaster with a maximum speed of 70 miles per hour and a 128 foot drop through a
mountain tunnel.
-
A wide variety of shows and demonstrations that incorporate Smoky Mountain history, which really helps you get a feel for the
culture of the area.
-
Daredevil Falls—a water ride with a kick (goes 50 miles per hour and includes a 67 foot drop). A must do on hot days when a cool
off is in order.
-
My personal favorite—the coal-powered Dollywood Express makes a five-mile journey through Dollywood, providing a glimpse of the
different areas of the park.
-
Adventure Mountain—the newest attraction—brings a whole new level of diversity to the park. Four obstacle courses ranging from
easy to expert are replete with rugged rope trails, net ladders, swinging bridges, a tire traverse and moving beams.
After an action-packed day of experiencing Dollywood, you will be ready to settle down for a quiet and peaceful evening. Personally,
I think the best way to do this is to forgo the hotels and hustle bustle of the Pigeon Forge strip and opt to rent a
Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg cabin. Smoky Mountain cabins showcase the beauty of the
mountains while also providing the peace and quiet necessary for every great Tennessee vacation or
romantic getaway.
So getaway and enjoy!
